Director and Counsellor/Psychotherapist Bradley Benson

Hello

At Inner Balance Psychotherapy, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. Life can be challenging, and seeking support is a powerful step toward healing and self-discovery. I specialise in working with individuals and couples, with a particular focus on LGBTQIA+ identity, relationships, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, PTSD, stress, burnout, and career challenges. Whether you're navigating a difficult period or striving for personal growth, we will work together to build resilience, deepen self-awareness, and create meaningful, lasting change. I welcome self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. While I’m not a registered NDIS provider, you can still use your funding to access therapy services with me. I provide detailed invoices for easy claiming. Let’s work together to support your mental health and wellbeing.

My Story

Becoming a therapist was a deeply personal journey for me, shaped by my own life experiences. Growing up, I faced bullying and physical assaults at school, navigated the challenges of being gay in a world that wasn’t always accepting, and underwent major surgeries. As an adult, I experienced burnout, uncertainty about my career path, and saw the impact of mental health struggles within my family and friends. These experiences gave me a profound understanding of resilience, healing, and the importance of support during difficult times.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent 14 years in hotel management and worked in various industries, including massage therapy, HR and recruitment, and the disability sector. I had always wanted to study psychology, but leaving school at 16 made me hesitant to pursue higher education. Eventually, I found the courage to follow my passion, completing a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Counselling. My professional experience has included roles in private psychology clinics as a practice manager, mental health management within the federal government, and working with survivors of child sexual abuse and Forgotten Australians. In private practice, I have worked with both individuals and couples, specialising in relationships, complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and identity exploration.

I believe that therapy works best when there is a strong connection between client and therapist. It’s essential that clients feel comfortable enough to explore parts of themselves they might not share with friends or family. Healing takes time, and I provide a space where clients can process their experiences at their own pace. My approach is transparent, authentic, and collaborative, with the firm belief that every individual has the autonomy and ability to create meaningful change in their life.

Outside of work, I’m a calm and grounded person who enjoys a good laugh, spending time with family and friends, and seeking out new adventures. I also understand firsthand the complexities of identity, burnout, stress, and relationship challenges, which deepens my empathy and informs my approach to therapy.
